'England at Leisure' - Exhibition at the Dock Museum
14th June - 4th September 2011 - Free Admission
Unveiled – a photographic exhibition from the National Monuments Record, the public archive of English Heritage.
The wonderfully evocative photographs in this exhibition explore leisure time from the 1860s up to the mid 20th century. From Victorian ladies with bicycles riding in Hyde Park to holidaying at an English seaside resort in the 1950s there is something for everyone.
Encompassing a mix of sports, traditional fetes and fairs, the new entertainment industry of cinema, theatre-going and other hobbies; these pictures show the new-found pleasures of a nation breaking free from the constraints of work and beginning to enjoy itself.

Cumbria CVS Local Forum - Tuesday 14 June
Tuesday 14 June 2011 12.30pm – 2pm at The Dock Museum, North Road, Barrow.
This is an invitation to all Third Sector groups active in South Lakes and Barrow. The Local Forum is important to anyone interested in finding out about local issues and working with other groups and organisations to find local solutions.

'Home Town' exhibition by John Duffin at the Dock Museum
John Duffin was born and raised in Barrow. He has now lived in London for over twenty years yet continues to paint and draw his hometown. He frequently returns to Barrow to make sketches and drawings of the area. His paintings are then completed in London and are a combination of memory, actuality and vision. This exhibition highlights John’s rare ability to be able to depict a place in just the right light, time of day or mood to capture its essence.
