Barrow AFC win Team of the Year at Cumbria Sports Awards

The Team of the Year Award was presented to the team demonstrating the highest achievement within their sport. The winner this year the award went to the world of football. Team managers Darren Sheridan and Dave Bayliss collected the award on behalf of Barrow Football Club.

Barrow progressed to the 3rd round of the FA Cup for the second successive season, this time earning a dream tie away to Premiership side Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Despite the 3-0 reverse the team gave a good account of themselves.

Then on Saturday 8th May, the town of Barrow emptied as supporters made the long trip to London to watch their team play in the Final of the FA Trophy against hot favourites Stevenage Borough. A crowd of over 21,000 saw the Bluebirds win 2-1 after extra time, with local hero Jason Walker scoring the all important winning goal in the 107th minute.

Last season they also retained their status in the Blue Square Bet Premier League for the 3rd consecutive season.
