Dude, Where’s My Culture? North West visits Barrow

Have YOUR say about Arts, Culture and Young People. Millions of pounds each year are spent on arts and cultural facilities for young people, but is it being spent on the right things? Do young people care more about Tchaikovsky or Tinie Tempah? Is putting a donk on it more important than morris dancing? Should we be providing less Opera and more Oprah? How relevant are museums, libraries and cultural services to young people today, and more importantly how could they be improved?

Dude, Where’s My Culture? are small events which give young people the chance to talk about their culture, what it means to them and let people in charge know about the sorts of arts and cultural facilities they would like to see in their area.

Young people who attend will have the opportunity to take part in various arts workshop to explore what arts and culture means and tell us what you think your libraries service should be providing to help you learn about culture. The event is based on a previous North West event planned and designed by young people from Bolton and Blackburn and Darwen.

Anyone who attends will also be given the opportunity to sign up for our Young Cultural Activists Programme – where young people will be given the power and support to run their own cultural events through their local library service. We are looking for young people to organise gigs, arts workshops, poetry sessions or anything else you can think of in your own local library, so if you are interested come down to find out more;
