Beach clean at Roanhead
Central and Hindpool Junior Wardens attended a beach cleaning event at Roanhead recently. The photo (left) shows the Junior Wardens receiving their pre-beach clean briefing from the National Trust warden for the site. Fortunately the sun stayed out and made for a great day for all those who attended.
The Junior Wardens had a great time in a beautiful and peaceful enviroment and followed the beach clean with some pond dipping along the shore and around the nearby dunes.
The team collected several bags of rubbish from the beach and made their contribution to keeping the beautiful area clean. You can find out more about Roanhead and Sandscale Haws through visiting the National Trust website by clicking on the link here.

Central and Hindpool Junior Wardens enjoyed a canoeing session courtesy of volunteers at Duddon Canoe Club yesterday.
7 young people from the project attended and after some instructions about what to do they were confident enough to take to the water.
The sessions was one of the Summer programme provided for the Junior Warden scheme by Central and Hindpool Neighbourhood Wardens.
Other sessions have included a visit to Furness Abbey, cleaning up and gardening for Cumbria CVS at their new premises on Hartington St, a trip to the cinema and gardening at the Green Heart Den.
Future sessions to come will include more canoeing and a beach clean at Roanhead. If you are aged between 9-11 years old and either live in the town centre or Hindpool or attend St James', St George's, Sacred Heart or Greengate Junior Schools then you are eligible to join.
For a Junior Wardens application form you can either email neighbourhoodmgt@barrowbc.gov.uk or ring 01229 876546 or call into the Neighbourhood Management office office at 242/244 Dalton Rd, Barrow.

Thought for the Week
"The power of imagination makes us infinite."John Muir
For the second year our Junior Warden programme are working towards their John Muir Award - see here for more http://www.jmt.org/jmaward-home.asp
Why thought for the week … ?
Recently someone asked us why we post our ‘thought for the week’ every week on this blog, and that’s a good question. Ostensibly this blog is about sharing information and news about what’s going on in Barrow, and more specifically the town centre and Hindpool areas of Barrow. But we don’t just share these news stories and information about what’s on because we have to or need to, we share them because we care about the place we all live and because we believe in certain values.
It is these reasons that get to the heart of why we post a thought for the week on our blog. Regular readers of our blog will know we list interesting and fun events, news releases from public services and other generally useful information. We chose what we publish for a reason, we chose them to indicate something about our values and the kind of neighbourhood, community and town we want to live in.
The same applies to our selection of a thought of the week, we chose them as signposts to the kind of place and society we want to live in, to indicate the kind of thoughts and feelings we think are important in creating and sustaining that kind of place and society. French Renaissance writer, Michel de Montaigne said “When I quote others I do so in order to express my own ideas more clearly.” This is why and how we choose our thoughts for the week – to express our own ideas more clearly through the thoughts and words of others … we also choose them because, as a French proverb suggests “The maxims of men disclose their hearts.”
We hope you like our choices and we are always happy to hear your comments, thoughts and feelings about them – plus, if you’ve got any good ones of your own feel free to let us know.
